Joys trained with Tina Koppa and at the Jaansz School of singing. She worked as a backing singer in Kibwe, a French Rap/African band, for two years. Next she performed Neo Soul music and for Corporate Functions, as well as a featured vocalist for YumYum (a soulful house events company). She writes her own songs and poems and, being multilingual, performs in Swahili as well as English.

Joys first performed as a guest singer with Grand Wazoo, and impressed the band so much, that she was invited to join the line-up.
