He has performed with major artists including Hugh Jackman, Brian Cadd, Doug Parkinson, Jeff Duff, Axle Whitehead & TISM, toured internationally through Europe and Sri Lanka, and extensively across Australia. He has also performed at major events, including the Commonwealth Games, Melbourne International Festival, Melbourne Comedy Festival, Melbourne Jazz Festival, Melbourne Grand Prix & Soho Jazz Festival.

Russell first performed as a stand-by player for Grand Wazoo on Tenor and Alto Sax, before becoming a permanent band member.
